People think that solar power cars are only a thing of the future. Yet, they are right on the horizon for use on the highways of American and other countries. Each year, the solar power cars that race across various countries prove that the concept is viable and can work for everyone.

The idea at this time is not to do away completely with other fuel sources for cars on the world’s highways. Simply supplementing the use of traditional fuel will save both the environment and the economy a great deal each and every year.

Today, the solar power cars used in the races are run only on solar power and therefore are rather odd in appearance. Because they are designed to collect the most solar energy in order to gain the speed and obtain the efficiency desired, the solar cells are large and often cover the entire vehicle. In commercial applications, however, the solar cells can be much smaller and rather well disguised to make the vehicle attractive as well as efficient.

For short commutes around town, solar power cars in many areas can run on solar energy alone. Batteries inside the vehicle will store excess solar power for use at times that solar power is not available on demand. The engines of the solar power cars will be very much, if not exactly, like the electric cars of today. The cars will also be light in weight to allow the solar power to be used most effectively.

Several solar power cars are in development even today for sale in the marketplace. These cars may not be available to the general public for a few years, but they are clearly on the horizon. The cost of the vehicles will not be substantially more than those of traditionally powered vehicles of today.

//
// <ins><ins></ins></ins>

Stopping at the gas station can be a hassle and rising gasoline costs continue to be an ongoing problem. The use of solar power cars will help to alleviate this issued. You can save money by using solar power for vehicles by purchasing a solar power car as soon as they become readily available. Reducing your dependence on traditional fuel sources will help to ensure that our natural, non-renewable resources last for generations to come. You will also be doing your part to stop the problems of global warming as well as air pollution.

As we look to a future of solar power, you’ll find solar power cars going from simple novelties used for college students to race across country to the automotive dealership near you. Every little bit we can do to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and traditional power sources will help not only you and your family but all the generations of the future of the world. By adding a solar power car to your other solar power systems, you’ll be doing your part to save the environment and the future.

With energy sources depleting and costs rising, we are being forced to look into alternatives that can meet our needs. The amount of energy needed to supply our needs is huge and it has been hard to find an energy source that can meet those needs and not be depleted. The best option that has been found is solar energy.

Solar energy is harnessing the sun to make energy. The sun is a free, renewable energy source. It is widely available and the ability to capture the sun’s energy has been greatly improved through research and study.

In order to use solar energy there has to be a way to capture the energy. This is done with solar panels. Solar panels will collect the sun’s energy. It may then convert that energy to be used as power or store it for later use.

It is important to have a solar storage unit because of the fact that the sun is not always available to produce energy. At night and during cloudy periods, the sun’s power is not available. In order to have an efficient and effective solar energy unit there has to be a way to store the solar power that is not directly used so it can be used later.

Solar energy has been a major focus as an alternative energy source. It offers many advantages over traditional energy sources, but also has some limitations.

The major limitation of solar energy is directly related to the ability to collect and store energy, so there is a constant power supply. With solar energy there may be times a back up energy source is needed. This could happen when the sun is not able to provide enough energy for the amount of energy needed for use.

The best use for solar energy is for heating. Heating involves little energy transformation, which means it is highly efficient and a perfect use for solar energy. Another common use for solar energy is cooling. Using solar energy for cooling is expensive, though. Solar energy can also be converted to electricity. It can be used to power electrical items just as electricity does.

The major reason that solar energy is such a big idea is that it has been found to be one of the only renewable energy sources that can provide enough energy. Solar energy is able to be produced on a large scale, which allows it to produce more energy then can be used.

As technology improves, though, the use of solar energy for electricity is a very real idea. There have been vast improvements recently that have led researchers to believe that solar energy is soon going to play a major role in electricity generation for the masses.

The advantages of using solar power make it obvious why such hard work is going into harnessing solar energy and converting it into a power source. Solar power is a renewable resource. What this means is that it is never going to run out. Additionally, solar power is not polluting. It has no negative effect on the environment like other energy sources. There are no harmful gases or other emissions from the production or use of solar energy.

As our current energy sources start to be depleted, we are being forced to find some other way to get energy. Solar energy has emerged as the best option and research is continuing to perfect the methods and techniques for harnessing the sun’s power.

Solar energy comes from the sun. A biology class will tell you that in addition to affecting climate and weather, sunlight provides the energy that sustains most life on earth. It also can be harness to provide heating, lighting and electricity. Solar power has become a hot topic currently, but this technology is nothing new, Native Americans, people in China and even the early Greeks have historically turned their buildings to the sun for heat.

These early architects were using what is referring as passive solar energy. This technique makes the best use of regular building materials to trap heat with no additional mechanical equipment used. Floors, windows and roofs play a role in attracting or deflecting the sun’s rays.

There are a few of ways to exploit solar radiation, coming out with the house’s placement. Having the house face the equator, we will assume we are in the Northern Hemisphere, thus the house should face south, means that it gets the day’s sunlight. Window guidance is also essential for optimal efficiency; most windows should point within 30 degrees of due south. Maintaining a small percentage of north facing windows will confirm that your home is comfortable year round and not cooking in the summer.

Rock or stone tile floors and brick walls will absorb the solar radiation and stick with it to give off heat after the sun is gone. While common windows enable heat to get away, special windows with low-e coating, lots of panes, inert gas fill, and/or insulated frames can reduce heat loss 50 to 75 per cent. By sealing your building envelope and insulating well, you will confirm that the heat prevails in the house. It can then be propagate by signifies of the house using a regular ceiling fan.

Direct sunlight is not the only essential light to recapture when considering energy use. by using overall daylight to light a space, you can cut down the requirement for electrical lighting and the heat that has developed by it. Artificial lighting has only been the main source of illumination since the 20th century. Furthermore, using natural light may have added pros for your physical and mental health. In addition to windows, day lighting makes use of skylights, light pipes, also known as light tubes, atriums, and light shelves to illuminate the interior. This is best considering every time building, but with many small renos, your house can be much brighter, naturally!

Passive cooling is another way to cut your charges and become more energy efficient. This is useful in warmer climates, where air conditioning can be a radical power buyer. Passive cooling is relate to using things for shading, to absorb the heat, and goes hand in hand with passive solar energy. It can be accomplishing using exterior landscaping choices, trees and other vegetation or interior/exterior building possibilities, such as shades, blinds or special glazing on windows.

Whether you are building a new home, looking at a few renovations, or just wish to cut your energy bill, passive solar energy and cooling formulas are an easy way to incorporated green ideas into your home. With the rising interest in environmental issues, they make an excellent selling feature and they will save you money.

Lets contemplate the benefits to be of green home energy including passive solar energy and the micro-generation of renewable energy for homes amongst others.

Every 15 minutes the sun produces enough power to supply our current energy needs for an entire year. Because of its distance from the equator, the United Kingdom only receives 60% of the solar energy received at the equator. This energy equates to between 900 to 1200 kWh per square meter per year.. This energy is equivalent to the energy production of 1000 power stations.

The energy coming from the sun fluxes and wanes depending on the solar activity. The less sun spot activity on our sun the less energy emitted.

Interestingly enough the number of sunspot-free days suggest that solar activity is heading towards its lowest level in about 100 years’. The low level of sun spot activity may suggests that the Sun may be moving into a hibernation-like state, with the obvious question of whether this will have any major consequences for us on Earth.

We have no way of knowing what the climate in any region of earth will be in the future therefore, instead of putting all our eggs in one basket, we SHOULD be putting our money into possible adaptation for both global warning and global cooling. And I know which I would prefer.

Anyway I digress…

To really understand and exploit the benefits of green solar energy, one needs to understand how solar energy is harnessed.

Green solar energy can be divided into two types i.e. thermal (heat) and light.

Thermal energy is considered passive solar energy. The use of passive solar energy in housing involves the placement of the building for optimum benefit, the building design and position of suitable building components to make full use of sunlight for day-lighting, passive heating, and/or passive cooling. The primary benefit of a passive solar home, apart from saving energy, is the improved comfort of its occupants.

Thermal energy is harnessed through the design and materials used to construct a building.

The building gathers energy from the sun the old fashioned way; by allowing it to stream in through the windows…

A passive solar home or building can get a full quarter of its heat from the sun alone through the integration of the appropriate ratio of windows to a south facing wall (if you live northern hemisphere)whilst using heat retaining materials, for example brick and stone, and a little intelligent design. That same thermal energy can also be used to heat water for solar hot water systems.

In a passive solar house window placement and sizes are crucial as they can affect the heat gain or loss during various months of the year.

When designing and planning a passive solar home the ultimate goal is to have a home that is warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Passive solar home energy systems can easily be integrated with active solar systems.

A passive solar system functions best in an energy efficient home with a well designed mechanical system.

It is rather unfortunate that the principle of passive thermal energy are hardly ever used in the mass production of housing.

In a energy efficient home a passive solar system should never be considered as a stand alone system to saving energy.

To reduce the need to use lights within the home during the day tubular skylights along with sky tubes and solar tunnels can be used.

The suns rays can be captured by the photovoltaic cells of solar panels to create electricity.

For the majority of home owners the reason to use renewable home energy is to reduce their utility bills. Constructing a green solar energy system can come with a large initial investment, however they generally pay for themselves within a few years by providing either supplemental electricity or all of the electricity to your home or business.

Building your own solar panels, participating in government refunds and net metering, in which you sell unused electricity back to the power company, can reduce the cost of implementing a green solar energy system.

In addition, green solar energy systems require little to no maintenance after installation, as most have no moving parts.

You don’t have to construct the whole solar energy system in one go, you can easily construct solar panels in modular sections and incorporate them into your home energy system whenever you complete a new panel.

At present solar energy remains one of the most expensive forms of renewable energy because of the high cost of solar cells. However, you can still save some money on your energy bills by creating your own low cost solar energy panel which can power virtually any appliance in your home, even a computer and a TV.

It will cost you less than $300, with the bulk of the cost accounted for by the solar panel itself. You will also need a 12-volt rechargeable battery which will store the energy generated by the solar panel and is where the appliances will be plugged in.

To make the solar panel, you have to install it in a frame that you can place on your roof or other area where it will receive a lot of sun. Once you’ve made the panel, connect it and the battery to a solar charger controller. Then attach a DC input that will allow you to operate DC-powered appliances such as electric fans and vacuum cleaners from this low cost energy source. If you want to operate AC appliances from your solar panel, you will need to buy an inverter to convert the power in the battery to AC.

As an alternative to a solar panel, you can attach flexible photovoltaic solar cells to a curtain to make a solar curtain. All you have to do is sew the solar cells onto an existing curtain and place the rechargeable batteries on the hem. Stitch the wires connecting the cells to the battery onto the curtains to prevent unnecessary movement. Hang the curtain onto the window where it will receive the most sunlight. If the solar cells are not pre-wired, use a multimeter to determine the positive and negative locations; solder the battery wire at these points and seal with electrical tape before connecting them to the battery.

If you’re feeling more adventurous, you can also make your own low-cost solar energy panels using sheets of copper plating and a plastic food container. First you will need to cut a sheet of copper plating as big as the container you will use to house your solar panel. Cut the sheet in half then heat one piece on an electric burner until it develops a black coating; don’t remove it at once but keep it burning for another half-an-hour. Once it’s cool, clean it off until the black coating has been removed but do not scrub or bend the copper panel. Place the two plates upright into the plastic container with one end flush with the bottom and the edges against the walls of the container; glue them into place. Fill the container halfway with a solution of water and 1 teaspoon of salt; make sure the top of the panels does not get wet. Finally, attach a connector to each of the plates above the waterline. The plate that you heated will have a negative charge while the other plate has a positive charge. After attaching a DC input to the battery, you can now use it to power small appliances or lights.

With the increasing cost of electricity, many homeowners are now searching for low cost energy sources to cut down on their utility bills. A number of renewable energy alternatives have emerged in the past few years to address this need, including wind power and solar energy. But solar energy continues to be expensive due to the high cost of manufacturing solar cells. This does not mean, however, that you can’t use the power of the sun affordably to cut down on your energy use. Here are a few suggestions for low-cost solar energy alternatives.

You can make your own low-cost solar energy-powered water heater by using the grill from the back of an old refrigerator as a heat collector. To do this, cut off the grill at the base, making sure first that all the coolant has been drained off. Then, put the grill in a frame with a discarded door mat as backing. Put glass on top of the frame to keep the heat inside the grill. Then attach hoses to the grill to serve as entry and exit ports for the water to be heated. Install the solar heater in a place where it will receive plenty of sun, then put one end of the hose into a cold bucket of water and the other end to an empty bucket that will receive the hot water. Be careful, the water produced by the heater can be scalding.

You can also make a low-cost solar energy oven that can cook hotdogs. You will need two cardboard boxes, aluminum foil, black spray paint and white glue. To make it, first tape shut the top flats on the larger box, then cut a hole in it to place the smaller box inside. Then decide how big you want the oven to be (it should be deep enough to accommodate your biggest pot) and cut the sides of the inner box up to that height. Glue aluminum foil to the inside of the boxes. Then make a drip pan using a piece of cardboard pasted with aluminum foil on one side and painted black; place this at the bottom of the oven to absorb the solar energy. Finally, make a removable lid for the oven that will also serve as a reflector flap; to make this flap, cut a rectangle on the lid on three sides roughly as big as the oven opening, then paste aluminum foil on it to reflect the sunlight radiated from inside the oven back onto your pots. Cover the opening on the lid with a plastic oven cooking bag.

You can cook virtually any food with your solar oven, even cakes; just remember to use dark pots that will absorb more solar energy. Cooking with solar energy also takes longer than cooking with conventional methods so be patient. However, exact timing of cooking times is not essential with a solar oven.

With just a little experimentation, you’ll soon be an expert solar chef and enjoy delicious slow cooked food with enhanced flavor.

Solar Energy Systems
The sun is the life giver to the entire solar system, life thrives and survives with the rays of sunlight we receive each day from the perennial and never ending source of energy in the sky. It is estimated that the earth receives almost 174 Pettawats or 174000000 Gigawatts of power every year from the sun. To tap this limitless source of energy is a prudent and long lasting solution for our present and future domestic and commercial energy needs. Solar energy systems have been designed which convert the power of the sun into usable heat and electricity for daily use. Through the use of advanced solar photovaltiac panels and thin film solar converters, the sun’s radiation is received by complex silicon circuits which convert this radiation into energy, there are also traditional methods of collecting the heat of the sun through Solar thermal collectors which provide heat for various purposes like cooking and boiling water or heating homes.
Solar energy is now used for energy intensive applications like pool heating and powering large kitchens or greenhouses. Using solar energy as a fuel conserves precious fossil fuels and reduces carbon dioxide emissions which makes this type of energy environmentally friendly. Many governments around the world are now providing various incentives to people who wish to switch to solar power and solar companies and installers who supply solar pv and heating panels are eligible for special discounts and tax concessions, to promote the sale and use of this clean and perennial form of renewable energy.
Solar energy systems are now being designed with various energy storage methods which store energy in lean periods of low sunlight to ensure a consistent supply of energy or heat from the Solar power source. Solar Energy systems rely on Thin Film Transitors and Photovaltiac panels which convert solar radiation into electricity and heat. With the reducing cost of solar hardware equipment, a large customer base is now looking towards solar energy as a viable option especially in remote areas where the cost of power supply through the standard power supply system can be prohibitively expensive. Wide spread use of thin film solar panels has increased solar power penetration in even the most cost conscious homes.

The future of energy security lies in exploiting the energy of the sun to meet our needs in the most effective and environmentally friendly manner and preserve the earth in all its beauty for the future generations of mankind.

The benefits of alternative energy for your home are becoming something that more and more individuals can realize in their lives. There is a large amount of press about alternative energy today. From government plans to car makers who are taking advantage of the options that exist. What does it really mean for you and your home though? There are some good places to get started on that question.

Government Incentives & Solar Power

One of the most common forms of alternative energy in a home is solar energy. There are other options including smart design that maximizes the use of energy and ambient conditions and some more definite alternative energies such as wind energy in use in homes, but for most home owners solar is one of the most practical. There is good news about that too. There may be government incentives for you to begin collecting the benefits of alternative energy for your home.

The Database of State Incentives for Renewable Energies has a database of incentives, including rebates that are available in each state. There is more though; you may also qualify for federal tax credits for energy efficiency. You can learn about whether the products you are considering qualify by visiting the Energy Start web site for more details.

Planning your solar array or other energy source will really determine the benefits of alternative energy for your home; it will also determine the cost of the system. In most cases it is a good idea to consult with a professional regarding the design of your system. If you are a specialist yourself there may be no need, but in every case the application of specialized knowledge is important. There are typically a number of companies that specialize in the installation of solar energy systems in each major metropolitan area. It is important to choose a quality company as the work may involve your roof or other parts of your home. If no companies are available in your area it may be possible for other trained professionals to complete the necessary tasks, but you may want to consult the manufacturer.

Increased Energy Efficiency

With alternative energy sources it is possible to create varying levels of power. For example, your solar array may produce only half of the energy that your house consumes. In some cases this may be the best choice for you based on how much you can spend or the amount of space you have that allows for efficient installation of solar panels. Balancing these factors can help to maximize the benefits of alternative energy for your home.

The benefits of alternative energy for your home include not only saving money of your energy bill, but conserving energy use. That is a help to environment and to the world energy demand. To that end there are a number of other options that you might consider when installing and alternate energy source. Simply insulating your home with new adequate insulation and using doors and windows with modern standards will likely help you to conserve the energy that you use. A number of these options also qualify for energy efficiency credits. No single answer is the answer, but by creating a combination of components that complement each other you can realize more benefits than you may have imagined.

Solar energy is energy which comes from the sun. This term is used in classifying electromagnetic forms of radiation which come from the sun and are then intercepted by Earth. This source of energy is the world’s most reliable and permanent form of energy.

On Earth, we use solar energy for heating buildings, manufacturing and producing energy for industries. You may wonder just what solar energy is and how exactly does it affect humans.

Our weather system and ocean currents are the result of solar energy. These sources provide energy, heat and light to all forms of life which inhabit Earth. There are many specific uses such as providing electricity and powering cars.

We also use solar energy to send satellites into space and also in space shuttles
. Boats, generators for emergencies, toys, and electrical systems are powered by solar energy.

On our planet, we received about 770 trillion kilowatts of solar energy. This amount is much bigger than other forms of energy such as nuclear, geothermal and gravitational energy.

The two different types of solar energy are thermal and electrical.

You may wonder what the different is between these two types of energy?

Thermal energy is considered to be a kinetic source of energy. You can find this everywhere. From this energy, the Earth gets hot and our homes are heated. We use this energy to dry our wet clothes and to dry up water in our wells. Many household uses and outdoor pools need this energy to have power. Many times this energy is referred to as heat energy. In the middle of Earth is where thermal energy is stored.

We all know electric energy is known as electricity. This is an essential piece of nature and is widely used as energy. Sunlight is used to power most ordinary equipment such as appliances, lighting and computers.

Many forms of solar energy rely on controls, storage and collectors. Storage is necessary so that this energy is available during daytime even though energy is needed during the night as well. The controls allow the energy system
to work properly.

How solar energy is accessed depends on three factors. The three factors are the typical weather, the time frame, and the exact location (longitude, latitude and altitude).

Besides realizing that solar energy sources are free, we still have to know the many advantages and few disadvantages.

The many advantages:

Solar energy has no limit and is always available as long as we live.

Solar energy is very abundant and we will not run out of it.

Fossil fuels are not capable of providing this much energy.

During the day we can use solar energy.

We can renew solar energy as it is inexhaustible.

Solar energy can also be insulated, absorbed, transmitted and reflected.

We can store solar energy in batteries.

The few disadvantages:

Solar energy cannot be accessed in cloudy places.

We cannot use solar energy at night time.

To use solar energy, you need large land areas.

The more distance you are away in the northern direction, the less solar energy will be available. Seasons are important aspects of solar energy as is the weather and sun position.

The reason so many people are getting a home solar energy system
fitted is not only because it is better on the environment but because of the money they can save in the long run. People now are realizing more than ever that the sun is not only good for topping up your tan it can also reduce your energy bills.

The amount of fossil fuels that we have been consuming are now running low and within years they will have run out completely so other methods of energy will have to be used. Even people providing the energy to your home are now looking for other methods as well as using them to create energy cheaper and you will find that you are not benefiting from this as energy prices are actually on the rise. Originally the sun is what helped to create every kind of fossil fuel in the first place.

The way in which the sun becomes fossil fuel starts out with the photosynthesis of plants. This is where plants turn the suns light into energy, this is how they flourish along with the water they get. When the plant dies it’s use does not as over the years it eventually becomes fossil fuel.

You may be asking yourself now why it is that solar power can save you so much money if it is such a big part in the making of fossil fuels, and the reason is this. The sun will give you energy directly from its heat or light, where as with fossil fuels people have to be paid to source them and dig them up as well as to be able to convert them to the energy we take for granted the energy companies have to pay their workers too. If only we could bypass this? Well we can, this is what solar power is all about.

There are different kinds of energy and one is solar thermal, the way it is created is by the use of solar panels which you will need to have installed at the highest point of your house which is usually the roof. When the sun heats the panels, they then heat the water that you use within your home, it’s as simple as that! This can then save you money in the way of heating bath water, washing up, as well as washing your clothes and taking baths.

The way photovoltaic uses solar power is when the solar or photovoltaic panels use the suns energy to and in turn makes it into the electricity that we can use to power any electrical source we wish. If your home is mainly electric imagine the money you would be able to save by using this source.

A passive system will work by using the suns light, it then will work by heating the water within your solar panel heating system
and hey presto there you have it, hot water without the bills.

If you wish to use an active solar energy producing system then the panels then take in the energy of the sun, not the light, and so that you can benefit from this energy no matter where the sun is in the sky the panels are able to move in order to seek out the sun, , but you will need an extra source of energy to enable it to do so, you even have the benefit if you wish to control the panels by computer.

Which ever kind of system you choose you can be sure that you will save money on your bills, hopefully this article has shown you how you can benefit from not using fossil fuels as much which will mean that they will last a lot longer for generations to come.
